Played a bit early with the VPN trick, below are my thoughts so far. If you have any gameplay questions let me know. I've been playing ever since 06, so if some of this seems oddly specific, that's probably why.
TLDR: Overall, I'm pleased so far. It plays slower, more physical, and with a bigger emphasis on passing. It's hard to say how the game will evolve though as players find new strategies.
Feels like GKs are improved for the first time since FIFA 10. They collect/punch crosses with authority. fut16coin hasn't had a gaffe in about 5 hours of playing. They might be prone to letting in long shots again though. Not sure yet, time will tell.
Collision physics appear to be much better than FIFA 15 (for reference, I found FIFA 15 to have shockingly awful collision physics). There was much less "physics bullshit" in my time playing than in a regular FIFA 15 section. There was much less "oh he tackled the ball and gave it straight to the opponent" and only a few instance of my players colliding into each other.
As a result of the physics, battling for headers feels better now. However, I'm not sure if headers are way too easy or if I'm finally being rewarded for trying to have good timing.
There's a huge difference between players who are good at dribbling vs those who are not. I expect to see a lot of FUT players crying early on.
Pace is waaaaay less important, but it's still a significant factor though. Passing is much more significant than in any other FIFA game. This couuuuld be the one where you actually have to play midfield. We'll see how the metagame evolves though.
Good passing stats are really important.
The L1 Cross (I think it's L1 by default, I change my button layout) seems pretty powerful. I don't cross much so I can't fully gauge it though.
The driven R1 + pass is very nice to have. It gives you a lot of variety in attack and let's you move the ball around in new ways. For a second I thought it would be the ultimate return of ping pong passing but that's not at all the Fifa 16 Account. Even if you're super amazing at controlling the ball you can't just whip it around due to momentum, angles, and player stats.
Some of the pitches still look dreadful. It would be nice if EA put effort into the thing we all stare at for 100s of hours every year. Mods can take care of it on PC, but obviously not on consoles.
